Categorizations are just ways to simplify more complex mechanisms at play. So in a way, yes, we might be trying to dive too much into something that can’t be so easily explained. And the research on this subject is very young, so there’s not much data yet!
It’s also important to note that our music preferences vary with our age, so someone that’s more a Heated Defiant in their youth can decrease significantly over the years (and other preferences may appear). They’re not set in stone!
