Congrats on your film!

Usually, the editor puts on a temp track that serves as a guide to how the music should develop throughout the film. It's a reference for the film composer on things like genre, tempo, and the emotional vibe it should have.

It's hard to get the right music for a movie. You risk being either too dramatic (becoming even absurd or funny) or having no fit with the visuals. And when there's no music fit, the music draws the attention of the audience away from the storyline, and the magic of cinema is broken.

If music can't act unconsciously on the spectator it won't awaken their emotions and the movie may lose its touch. The more unconscious music is perceived the better.

So yes, it's a tough call!

Thanks for taking the time to read and comment Yiqing!
