On the serious side, yes, I totally agree with everything you said. I like thinking about distancing yourself as a temporal measure to be able to enter freshly into this new self.

It goes with the cliché fake it until you make it, but this time it's not something fake, it's just a future self that has yet to develop properly in the present.
