I sometimes think of these other decisions by people as part of a group when they vandalize public property, but act as a group. Because they merge with the general emotional trend and they are somewhat anonymous, they feel they can do things they would not do if they were alone. Like a group catharsis.

People are much different when acting in a group compared to when they're alone. And sometimes much more scary.
