It might be useful at the beginning, as one more learning tool in your process of becoming a better writer. And as you point out, you started relying less on it as time went by and begun relying on your own skills and intuition. It's a tool to be used with caution, and at a stage of your development as a writer. Then, we have to let go of the small wheels and ride the bicycle without further aid.
