I've also come to realize that people hire others with who they feel they can work well with. Who wants to work with a smartass that doesn't care for anything but himself?

Now, maybe their social skills can get them inside the door, and then everybody realizing the mistake they made. They knew how to sell themselves, but another thing is to remain at the job (except if it's in the public sector where getting you out is almost impossible).
