It's a tough question to answer. Maybe it's fear instilled in us by the few ruling, persuading us that others are the reason for our suffering, and we block our reasoning with overwhelming emotion. Massive social gatherings can have an amplifying effect on us, but then we end up on the battlefield and face reality and see that life is more precious and we don't want to take it from others, even if they are our so-called enemies.
