Science is about understanding the world in a structured, reliable way. But when greed takes over, we see the spread of lies that shape our perceptions and actions.
Let’s not reduce this complex issue to an all-or-nothing scenario.
Take incarceration, for example. It's shifted from a focus on rehabilitation to profit. The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate globally, and the prison industry is big business. Private prisons profit from high inmate populations, with little incentive to rehabilitate inmates because their model relies on repeat offenders.
This system keeps people locked up instead of addressing the root causes of criminal behavior—such as lack of education, mental health issues, and economic hardship.
Rehabilitation, not punishment, should be the priority.
