Sometimes if you give employees control over the music they can listen to, the benefits are even higher. It can provide a subjective sense of isolation, help them focus on their tasks, and improve their overall mood.

When you put background music for everyone to hear it can feel invasive. People might react like it's forced upon them to listen to music they dislike (or they just want silence). With headphones, anyone can control their own sound environment.

I'm wondering how would you be selecting the appropriate music. Would you ask employees to set their preferences? Would you think of the target audience and find something suitable considering your line of work (e.g. sports store with electronic music)?

A fascinating topic, thanks for writing about it!
