And regarding music, there are definitely a lot of upbeat tracks out there. The study I mentioned in my article, though, looked at the overall trends in popular music lyrics from the 1950s to the 2010s, and found a significant increase in negative emotions like anger and fear, while words associated with joy and confidence have decreased.
It makes us think how the emotional tone of the most popular songs has shifted over time, reflecting (and possibly influencing) our collective mood.
