There's a psychological factor as well. People might lose trust in the industry, so many people lose their BTC held on exchanges, etc. It will certainly affect the price of BTC. But BTC on its own is pure, it's the greedy people that corrupt it that make it look bad, but the fundamentals haven't changed.
