When people are in a very tough spot, they're limited but what they can get sadly so. I'm happy this question is illegal in several locations (I would've liked to see the "list below" part though).

The other thing is that people don't usually talk about their salaries with co-workers and that makes our power to bargain much lower because we negotiate with no references (or outdated).
